Bayhealth Medical Center issued the following announcement on Jan. 2.

Since 2005, Bayhealth has been committed to Planetree’s philosophies of person-centered care. In 2015, Planetree International awarded Bayhealth its Bronze Certification for Meaningful Progress in Patientand Family-Centered Care. In 2018, Bayhealth received Silver Certification for Significant Advancement in Patient- and Family-Centered Care. Bayhealth is one of only seven healthcare organizations internationally with the Silver-level Certification since Planetree first introduced the recognition level in 2012, and just one of three healthcare organizations in the U.S. awarded with Silver Certification. Earning these certifications was no small feat, and Bayhealth is preparing for the challenge to embark on the journey to attain the Gold Certification.

“Going for Planetree gold for me means we are using a holistic approach to our patient care — of mind, body and spirit,” said Senior Director of Perioperative Services and Nursing Informatics Faith Colwell-Dorio, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, VHA-CM. “It shows how Bayhealth incorporates the whole patient’s life experiences as we go through their healthcare journey during each encounter. Plus, never forgetting caring for the caregivers in the process.”

Bayhealth has created a “Planetree Gold Steering Team” composed of senior leaders to identify initiatives that will amplify strategic and operational goals in order to surpass the requirements of meeting Planetree’s mission.

“Planetree signifies patient- and family-centered care. It is the essence of what we do each and every day,” said Director of Patient Advocacy, Service Excellence and Professional Recruitment and Planetree Co-Chair Marianne Foard, MS, RN, NE-BC, PRC. “Achieving gold status validates that we have structures and processes in place to ensure that we live out our philosophy of placing our patients at the center of all we do.”
