Christiana Care Health System issued the following announcement on Oct. 8.

Kimberly Cibroski, BSN, RN, CEN, of Christiana Hospital’s Emergency Department, received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for August 2019.

ChristianaCare DAISY Award recipients are nurses recognized for meeting and exceeding the needs and expectations of patients and families by displaying exceptional clinical skills, compassion, respect and partnership.

The DAISY nomination came from a nurse colleague who described Kim Cibroski’s compassionate, personal care. Kim was caring for an elderly patient, just diagnosed with an inoperable brain bleed. Until the visit, the patient had been totally independent. She and her family chose to have the patient admitted to the hospice unit.

“I was charge nurse when Kim called me,” wrote Terri Paul, BSN, RN, CEN, in her DAISY nomination. “As her patient was getting ready for hospice, she asked to go outside just one more time. Kim made the arrangements and was joined by teammates who helped take the patient outdoors on her stretcher before going to her room.

“The patient and her family were very appreciative. This was an awe-inspiring moment for the staff as well, as we knew this would be the last time she would be outside. As they exited the building, a coworker accompanying them received a text message to ‘look up.’ They turned to see the MICU and Cath Lab staff witnessing this extraordinary moment and providing their full support.”

The international DAISY Award program honors skillful and compassionate nursing care. The Professional Nurse Council at Christiana Care selects DAISY Award recipients using an anonymous selection process based on nominations from patients, families and all members of the ChristianaCare team. All nurses — inpatient, outpatient and VNA — are eligible.
