Juniors and seniors at all high schools in Delaware will be able to earn up to a semester’s worth of college credits at no cost before graduating high school beginning this fall.

The University of Delaware Early College Credit Program will have high school students take courses online, with streaming of courses on campus in Newark. The university will offer five courses per year. Students in the program will be able to take from one to five courses in two years. Five courses, or 15 credit hours, is a college semester.

“This innovative program will put our great faculty into high school classrooms across the state, teaching introductory college-level material to Delaware’s motivated high school students,” UD President Dennis Assanis said.

The program will also decrease the cost of a college education, said Assanis and Delaware Secretary of Education Susan Bunting.
