A new U.S. Senate caucus, founded by Sen. Chris Coons (D-Delaware) and Sen. Mike Braun (R-Indiana), brought in more members earlier this month.
The caucus plans to help Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) patients and their families by advancing policies, funding research and eventually finding a cure for ALS. It is a fatal disease which degrades a person’s muscle control and movement. The disease doesn’t have a cure, effective treatments or a proven cause.
“It’s clear that there is a strong bipartisan, bicameral commitment among members to do all we can to help find a cure for ALS,” Coons said. “Even in the face of such a debilitating disease, ALS patients and their families are inspiring us to take action.”
The other senators on the caucus are Republicans John Boozman (Arkansas), John Kennedy (Louisiana), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Marsha Blackburn (Tennessee), Tom Cotton (Arkansas) and Martha McSally (Arizona), and Democrats Richard Blumenthal (Connecticut), Dick Durbin (Illinois), Doug Jones (Alabama), Jeanne Shaheen (New Hampshire), Krysten Sinema (Arizona) and Sheldon Whitehouse (Rhode Island).
