CHAMBER LEADERSHIP BREAKFAST WITH DR. KATHLEEN MATT

A Delawarean through and through…

A native Delawarean, Kathleen S. Matt, PhD grew up in Newark, worked at Bing’s Bakery on Main Street, graduated from Newark High School, and earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in biology from the University of Delaware. After receiving her PhD in Neuroendocrinology from University of Washington, Seattle, Dr. Matt spent time at Arizona State University and with the Senate in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Matt made her way back to Delaware in 2009 to serve as the dean of the UD College of Health Sciences. During her tenure as dean, she has grown the college at the undergraduate and graduate level to include seven departments: Nursing, Physical Therapy, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Behavioral Health and Nutrition, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, Medical and Molecular Sciences, and Epidemiology. Along with the growth of departments in the college, research development in the college has expanded over 300%.

With the mindset that health outcomes are advanced through the power of partnerships, Dr. Matt was instrumental in creating the Science, Technology, and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus—created on the site of a former Chrysler assembly plant. Her vision for the STAR Campus was to create a platform that facilitates collaborations engaging academia, businesses, and the community with the intent of enhancing health outcomes and growing economic development.

To say the First State means a lot to Dr. Matt is an understatement. Join us on August 24 to hear in her own words how Delaware impacted her story—and its influence on the legacy she has built.
