Moore Appointed Delaware Chief of Police

City of Delaware Police Captain Adam Moore has been appointed Chief of Police after having served as Interim Chief since May.

City Manager Tom Homan made the appointment, which is effective September 13, and swore in Moore at City Hall.

“Throughout the process, Adam clearly showed he was ready for this new responsibility, and the best candidate to carry the department forward,” Homan said.

The appointment caps a nationwide search that began after Chief Bruce Pijanowski retired. Moore emerged from a field of seven finalists following community panel interviews, an assessment exercise conducted by the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police, meetings with City department heads and union representatives, one-on-one meetings with the manager, a virtual discussion on various policing topics, and introductions to City Council members.

Moore is the department’s 13th Chief of Police. Later this month, a badge-pinning ceremony will occur. Details will be announced.

Moore, 45, has more than 20 years of law enforcement experience and has been a Captain since 2012. He previously served as a sergeant, school resource officer, public information officer and patrol officer with Delaware.

“It has been my honor to serve in this police department, and work and train with the very best.” he said. “I look forward to proudly serving as its next police chief.”

Moore earned a degree in Criminology/Sociology from the Ohio State University, and a master’s in public safety from the University of Virginia. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Certified Law Enforcement Executive program.

The Police Department has approximately 55 sworn officers and an annual budget of nearly $12 million.
