Scholarship applications are now open for students who will be enrolled in college courses in the fall of 2020, Matt Meyer, New Castle county executive, announced.
The application is open to students in New Castle County, which includes Wilmington and other cities.
Meyer said there is $50,000 in scholarship money.
To apply for a scholarship students must either be currently enrolled in college or will be attending college in the fall. Students must also prove the need for scholarship money with a FAFSA student aid report, W2, benefits verification letter or pay stubs.
Applicants will also have an interview in April with an independent board, who selects the winners of the scholarships. The winners will then receive an invitation to an awards ceremony in June.
“College graduates benefit our communities in various ways through higher rates of civic engagement, volunteerism and voter turnout, and together that leads to stronger and healthier communities,” Meyer said. “These scholarships will help students access their goal of becoming a college graduate.”
The deadline for applications is Friday, March 20.
